In what had to be the hardest Instagram post of his life today, Wolfgang Van Halen, bassist and son of Van Halen founder Eddie Van Halen, announced that his father, “has lost his long and arduous battle with cancer this morning.”
The post dropped on the social media site just before 3pm CST was a difficult read for those just browsing through. Wolfgang went on to say, “He was the best father I could ever ask for. Every moment I’ve shared with him on and off stage was a gift. My heart is broken and I don’t think I’ll ever fully recover from this loss. I love you so much, Pop.”
Earlier this year, rumors swirled about the guitarist’s worsening health, with TMZ reporting recently that Eddie has traveled to Germany for cancer treatment that had apparently been going on for some time.
The legendary guitarist was 65 years old.
