The Manhattan-Ogden School Board gave final approval Wednesday to move forward with the guaranteed maximum price of approximately $9.1 million for renovations at 901 Poyntz Ave, the Manhattan High East campus building.

The project is the final facility to be upgraded as part of the 2018 voter-approved school bond. Board member Brandy Santos sits on the Facilities and Growth Committee, which she says worked feverishly over the past year to determine a best path forward.

The building is well over 100 years old and has had notable issues with heating and cooling. Board member Kristin Brighton says the building hasn’t been properly maintained over the years, primarily due to budget constraints, dating back to 1978.

The building, which has served as the 9th grade center for USD 383 for close to three decades, is being repurposed to house district administrators, in addition to the central library services, the FIT Closet and the new board meeting room.
