Tang Signs Transfer Brendan Hausen

MANHATTAN, Kan. (K-State Athletics) – Kansas State head coach Jerome Tang added another piece to his roster for the 2024-25 season with the signing of transfer guard Brendan Hausen(Amarillo, Texas/Amarillo/Villanova) to a Financial Aid Agreement on Friday evening (April 26).

A 6-foot-4, 205-pound guard originally from Amarillo, Texas, Hausen arrives at K-State after 2 seasons (2022-24) at Villanova, where he developed into one of the top 3-point shooters in the BIG EAST. He totaled 88 3-point field goals in his 66-game stint, averaging 1.3 makes per game, while connecting on 39.5 percent from beyond the arc. This past season, he led the Wildcats in both 3-point field goals (61) and 3-point field goal percentage (38.1) while coming off the bench in all 34 games and averaging 17.7 minutes per game.

In his 2 seasons at Villanova, Hausen averaged 4.7 points on 40.7 percent shooting (100-of-246), including 39.5 percent (61-of-160) from 3-point range, and 85.2 percent (23-of-27) from the free throw line in 13.4 minutes per game while playing in 66 of a possible 68 games for head coach Kyle Neptune. He helped the Wildcats win 35 games, including 20 in BIG EAST action, the past 2 seasons with back-to-back appearances in the NIT.

“It’s another great day to be a Wildcat as we welcome an elite shooter in Brendan Hausen and his family to K-State,” said Tang. “But he is more than just a shooter; he is a weapon. We are excited about the growth that he can make as a complete basketball player once he gets around our staff. Hausen doubled his scoring production in 2023-24, averaging 6.2 points on 39.2 percent (69-of-176) shooting, including 38.1 percent (61-of-160) from beyond the arc, and 86.7 percent (13-of-15) from the free throw line in playing all 34 games. He scored in double figures 9 times, including a career-high 18 points vs. Le Moyne on Nov. 10, 2023, in which, he connected on 6-of-8 shots from 3-point range. He made 2 or more 3-pointers in 17 games and finished 13^th in the BIG EAST with 1.79 3-point field goal makes/game.

Hausen played 6 minutes in Villanova’s 72-71 overtime loss to K-State at Bramlage Coliseum on Dec. 5, going 0-of-2 from the field with an assist.

Hausen is the fourth player to sign with the Wildcats for the 2024-25 season, including the third Division I transfer following Dug McDaniel(Washington, D.C./St. Paul VI Catholic VI/Michigan) and Christian (C.J.) Jones(East St. Louis, Ill./East St. Louis/UIC). The trio join top-50 high school prospect David Castillo(Bartlesville, Okla./Sunrise Christian Academy [Kan.]), who signed on Nov. 8.

As a true freshman in 2022-23, Hausen played in 32 games, averaging 3.1 points on 44.3 percent (31-of-70) shooting, including 42.9 percent (27-of-63) from 3-point range in 8.9 minutes per game. He scored in double figures 3 times, including a season-best 15 points against Oregon on Nov. 27, 2022. He went 5-of-9 from the field against the Ducks, including 5-of-8 from 3-point range, in 21 minutes.

Dubbed the ‘Amarillo Assassin’ for his exploits in becoming of the top shooting guards in the Class of 2022 at Amarillo High School in Amarillo, Texas, Hausen finished his career as the school’s all-time leading scorer with 2,208 points. He led the Sandies to a 31-7 overall record as a senior, averaging 18 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists, and was named the 2021-22 Boys Athlete of the Year in the Texas Panhandle. He scored a season-high 30 points in the Sandies’ 71-41 win over Palo Duro on Jan. 26, 2022.

K-State finished the 2023-24 season with a 19-15 record, including a tie for ninth in the Big 12 with an 8-10 mark, and advanced to the NIT. Among the Wildcats’ 19 victories were 4 over Top 25 teams, including 3 in the Top 10. The team has won 45 games in head coach Jerome Tang‘s tenure, including consecutive postseason appearances.
