Kansas State’s Chris Klieman appears to be on the cusp of hiring a former Big 12 head coach to become an assistant on his staff.

K-State Online was first to report yesterday that former Texas Tech head coach Matt Wells is nearing a deal to become the quarterbacks coach for the Wildcats, a deal that would include him sharing the offensive coordinator title with offensive line coach Connor Riley.

Riley took on the OC duties for the Pop-Tarts Bowl win last week after Colin Klein left for Texas A&M in the days following the regular season’s end.

Wells has spent the past two seasons as an analyst at Oklahoma after his stint in Lubbock that saw him go 13-14, a stint that ended in 2021 when he was fired following a loss to K-State.
