Government offices for Riley County will be closed next Thursday Jan. 9 in honor of former President Jimmy Carter who passed away on Sunday at the age of 100.
President Joe Biden announced that day will be a National Day of Remembrance for the former President, meaning that the county offices will be closed that day. That also means Riley County Commissioners will not meet that morning for their regularly scheduled commission meeting.
While most county offices will be closed, the Riley County District Court will remain open to accommodate a previously scheduled jury trial, which will proceed as planned. The Riley County Transfer Station at 1881 Henton Road will also remain open. Emergency services, including Riley County Emergency Medical Services and Riley County Fire District #1, will be available during the closure.
Regular operations for all other county offices will resume on Friday, Jan. 10. More information can be found at rileycountyks.gov.
