Riley County had five firms apply to consult on its comprehensive plan update, officials said Thursday morning.

Planning and special projects director Amanda Webb provided the update at Thursday’s meeting.

The comprehensive plan is a document that guides growth and economic development within the county while also emphasizing agricultural and rural preservation. County commissioners in April approved spending a total of $150,000 for an update to the plan.

The selection committee received hard copies of the submissions this week. Committee members will respond with evaluation sheets, and then the commission will interview at least two firms.

Commissioners said they’d get through budget requests before moving on to the consultant selection.

Officials hope to have the comprehensive plan update completed by next June.
