Officers filed a report of vehicle burglary in the 2600 block of Claflin Road on December 10, 2024, at approximately 6:36 AM. Officers listed a 23-year-old male as the victim when it was reported miscellaneous Milwaukee power tools were stolen from his vehicle by an unknown subject overnight. Total loss associated with this report is approximately $1,700. Anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers. Officers filed a report of an injury accident at the corner of 4th and Moro Streets on December 10, 2024, at approximately 6:29 PM. Officers report a Honda Civic, driven by Aaron Crews, 48, of Junction City, struck Subdint Cruz, 27, of Manhattan, and a minor child who were crossing the street. Cruz and the minor were transported to Via Christi by EMS for treatment of their injuries. Both were transported on to other hospitals.
Officers filed a report of rape in Manhattan on December 10, 2024. Due to the nature of this crime no other information will be released at this time.
Officers filed a report of theft by deception on December 10, 2024, at approximately 11:44 PM in the 300 block of Southwind Road. Officers list Dollar Tree as the victim when it was reported an employee was involved in a telephone scam under the guise of asset protection. Total loss associated with this report is $1,200.
Over the past two weeks, Riley County Police Department has responded to over 25 reported vehicle burglaries in the Manhattan area. Yesterday, December 10, 2024, Alexander Darnell, 19, of Manhattan, was arrested in connection with some of these incidents. Darnell was arrested on the probable cause offenses of vehicle theft ($1,500-$25,000), interference with an LEO, possession of opiate/opium/narcotic/ or certain stimulant x 2, burglary- vehicle, and use/possess with the intent to use drug paraphernalia. Total bond was set at $19,000. Darnell was confined at the time of this report.
While his apprehension is a step in the right direction, we want to remind the community that these types of crimes are often committed by multiple individuals.
