Snow will be ending across the region Tuesday morning, but conditions will continue to be messy.

Highways across Riley and Pottawatomie County remain completely snow covered and the Riley County Police Department has implemented the Emergency Accident Reporting Phase (EARP) until further notice. RCPD says K-18 and US 177 are particularly treacherous. When EARP is in effect, crashes do not need to be reported immediately as long as there are no injuries, it is not a hit-and-run, and does not involve drugs or alcohol. Crashes must be reported to RCPD within 48 hours.

The Kansas Department of Transportation says most highways in the state this morning are also completely snow covered. Westbound lanes of Interstate 70 are closed from Salina to the Colorado border, while eastbound I-70 is closed from the Colorado state line to Hays, due to winter weather and reduced visibility. Governor Laura Kelly issued a verbal state of disaster emergency proclamation late Monday, allowing resources to be pre-positioned to provide state assistance to municipalities.

Strong winds will be with us the rest of the day and temperatures will be bitter cold for the rest of the week. Another chance for snow comes into place Thursday night and Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
