The House seat for District 67 was up for voting on Tuesday.
Republican, Mike Dodson, defeated Cheryl Arthur, getting 54% of the votes. Dodson tells KMAN that he is grateful for the opportunity.
“I’ve retired four times already and had all the blessings one could ask for and this is just another opportunity to serve the people I care about here in Manhattan and Riley County,” says Dodson.
Dodson adds that he add a strong competitor in Cheryl Arthur.
“I would like to say I appreciate Mrs. Arthur’s campaign. I think she did very well, had a strong campaign. I think the folks here in Riley County can be proud of the way the campaign was run,” he says.
As Dodson prepares for Topeka, he says that growth of business, both short-term and long-term, in Kansas are important to him and adds his thoughts on recovering local businesses.
“The big thing is making sure we can get people back to work as quickly as we can, and make sure that all the people that own businesses along main street in the state of Kansas can have some support to not only take care of their businesses, but take care of all the people that work in those businesses,” says Dodson.
Dodson will fill the seat previously held by Tom Phillips who decided to step down. He believes that his experience in being part of the Manhattan City Commission has prepared him well for this step.
