Students and non-students seeking rental properties in the Manhattan area now have an easy to use, free online option to find housing.
The new website is called MHKHousing.com and is entirely student run through Collegian Media Group at Kansas State University.
The site, which officially launches in January, offers an extensive, consolidated online catalog of off-campus housing. Collegian Advertising Assistant Manager Dominique McGlynn says it’s a great tool for those needing housing, but not ready to view a property in person amid the pandemic.
“Not being able to tour the homes or to have that accessibility that you had once had a year ago, having this website is for students is something you can always refer back to,” she said.
McGlynn says going forward they’re hoping the website will be used by students but especially those non-students or transitioning military members coming to Manhattan looking for a place to live. It’s anticipated to become the primary housing service for K-State students and Manhattan locals.
The idea behind the website is to create a localized marketplace specifically geared at housing in the area to compete with some of the more nationally known platforms that provide information on rental listings. It is supported by businesses that subscribe to be able to list properties says Daren Lewis, advertising advisor for the Collegian.
“So we’re going to have an experience, where not only can you find a rental property, you’ll be able to find stories and information from other students. You’ll have a firsthand, more personal experience about the rental process versus some of these larger companies that have just a ‘Manhattan’ tab,” he said.
Some listings will have video options for virtual tours of properties as well as extensive photos.
