The head of Riley County Police Department’s corrections division on Monday said much of its overpopulation comes from inmates awaiting court.

RCPD Maj. Mark French spoke during Monday’s meeting of the Riley County Law Enforcement Agency Board meeting, describing some factors contributing to that situation.

French said the jail does not hold minor and misdemeanor offenders in-house and sends those offenders to other facilities, but the jail still faces a numbers issue.
