Two wrestlers, two cross country/track athletes and two 4×800 relay teams will be inducted Friday night as the 2025 class of the Wamego High Athletics Hall of Fame. The ceremony will take place between basketball games as the Red Raiders are set to host Wichita Independent.
Introducing the 2025 Wamego Athletics Hall of Fame class…
Randy Hill | Wrestling | Class of 1974
Hill was a three-time letter-winner in wrestling for the Red Raiders. As a junior, Hill was a regional champion and state qualifier. Ending his successful season with a record of 17-5. As a senior, Hill was a league champion, district champion, regional champion, and qualified for the state tournament with an undefeated record. At State, Hill became Wamego High’s first ever finalist with a 2nd place finish. Hill finished his senior season 24-1. He would end up leading his team to the program’s first ever top 10 finish at state.
Hill continued his wrestling career in college. Competing for one season at Pratt and three at Fort Hays State. He was an All-America performer in 1979 as a senior, finishing as the national runner-up at 167 pounds with a 13-2-1 record overall. During his junior year, Hill became the first FHSU wrestler in history to complete an undefeated regular season. Going 21-0 before competing at the national championship site where he went 3-2 to finish 24-2 overall. Hill was a four-time national qualifier overall, including once at Pratt. He finished with an overall record of 44-11-2 (.789) at FHSU. At the end of his career in 1979, Hill owned the FHSU career records for points, near falls, and escapes. Hill has inducted into the Fort Hays State Athletics Hall of Fame this past October.
Lee Hecke | Wrestling | Class of 1991
A four letter-winner in wrestling, Lee compiled an overall record of 92-21-3. Ranking him 10th all-time in winning percentage. As a freshman, Lee accumulated a 23-10-1 record and qualified for the State. Lee was hampered with an injury his sophomore year, but still finished the season 14-7 and qualified for State. Lee was a regional champion his junior season. Qualifying again for State and finished 27-3-1. As a senior, Lee was a regional champion and made it to the State Championship match as an undefeated wrestler. He finished the season 28-1 as a state runner-up. In the 1990-91 season, the team won the only league and regional titles in program history.
Lee has served as an assistant coach for the Wamego High wrestling team since 2011.
BreAnna Briggs | Cross Country & Track | Class of 2009
In cross country, Briggs was a four-time All-League and All-State runner. She helped lead the Red
Raiders to three third place team finishes and one runner-up finish at State. Individually, Briggs finished in the top four at State three times. Since the girls’ distance has changed to 5K, Briggs still holds the fastest 2 mile and 4K record in school history.
In track, Briggs earned 12 medals at State in her career. Placing 2nd, 3rd twice and 4th in the 3200 meter. She still holds the school record in the 3200. In the 1600 meter, placed in the top five three times. She ran on the State Champion 4 X 800 relay teams of 2007 & 2009. Was State runners-up in 2006 & 2008.
Briggs went on to run four years of cross country and track at Texas A&M Corpus Christi. Where she was an All-conference runner all four years. Briggs is still on the program’s top 10 list of fastest times for the 5k, 6K, and 10 K cross country distance.
Jordan Routh | Cross Country & Track | Class of 2013
In cross country, Routh was a three-time All-League and two-time All-State runner. Placing 12th as a junior and 7th as a senior individually at State. Helping lead his team to back-to-back State Championships. Routh currently has the 5th fastest 5K cross country time in school history.
In track, Routh was a four-event medalist in both his junior and senior years. Placing 3rd in the 1600 meter twice, 4th & 5th in the 3200, 7th in the 800 twice, a member of State Champion 4X 800 relay twice, and helping lead the 2013 track team to a
State runner-up finish his senior.
Routh went on to run cross country and track at K-State.
Girls 2007 State Champion 4 X 800 Relay Team – Beth Neilsen (2008), Courtney Price (2007), Racheal Roudybush (2009) & BreAnna Briggs (2009). They still hold the school record for best 4 X 800 time.
