Signups are underway for volunteers to pick up furniture ahead of Manhattan’s Furniture Amnesty Day on Friday July 30th. If you’re looking to donate furniture for the day, you’ll need to sign up before the end of Wednesday to be placed on the list of stops volunteers will be making for pick ups.

The event returns after a hiatus last year, according to Manhattan Fire’s Assistant Chief of Risk Reduction, Ryan Courtright. The 2019 amnesty day was a record setter and Courtright says that the amnesty day is a good way to help people at both ends of the process.

Hands On K-State program administrator Kate Long tells KMAN that anything that’s not electrical can be donated. Long says sign ups for looking at the items begins Friday morning at eight in City Park, which will allow you to browse and then remove the donated furniture in 15 minute increments. Time slots are set on a first-come, first-served basis and will run between 11am and 4pm on Friday. There is a need for volunteers to help, with shifts set for three hours beginning at eight Friday morning.
