A group of volunteers on Tuesday afternoon collected litter into trash bags along Linear Trail and the Kansas River.

Friends of the Kaw, a nonprofit organization, organizes monthly cleanups during spring, summer and fall in communities between Kansas City and Junction City where the river flows. Tuesday’s event targeted the Manhattan area, where Friends of the Kaw is trying to grow its community cleanup efforts.
