Two people are in custody in relation to a murder investigation involving 1-year-old Ziya Miller.

The Riley County Police Department says 24-year-old Matthew Miller, of Junction City, and 26-year-old Sonya Williams, of Ogden, were arrested Thursday and are charged with first-degree murder and aggravated child endangerment. Miller is additionally charged with one count of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance.

According to RCPD, the Junction City Police Department responded to a call in April 2023 for a child not breathing. Upon arrival, it was determined the child passed away in Manhattan but had been transported to Junction City by Miller. Both parents are charged given the circumstances surrounding the death.

Williams was arrested on a Riley County District Court warrant. Williams was arrested on probable cause charges.

Miller is being held on a $1,250,000 bond. Williams is jailed on a $1.1 million bond.

RCPD said Friday that due to the sensitive nature of the investigation and to ensure the integrity of ongoing legal proceedings, no further details are being disclosed. Additional information may be disseminated by the Riley County Attorney’s Office.
