Softball
Wamego, the defending 4A state champions, will return to state to defend its crown. In the semifinals, the Red Raiders beat Field Kindley 15-0. Later in the day, a tougher matchup, but defeated Independence 3-0 for the regional title. Wamego’s record stands at 22-4.
Rock Creek was postponed to Wednesday 5/15.
In 3A, 6-seed Riley County earned an upset quarterfinal win over St. Marys 2-0. The Falcons will play Marysville today in the semifinals from Senaca at 1:00.
At the 2-1A Regional in Alma, unfortunately both Frankfort and Blue Valley couldn’t make it out of the semifinals. Frankfort would fall 7-6 to Jackson Heights. Ending the Wildcats season at 7-12. Blue Valley lost to Onaga 10-0 and finished with a record of 0-11.
Baseball
Rock Creek, the one-seed for 4A East, picked up two wins Tuesday to earn its spot in the state tournament for the 11th time in program history. On its home turf, the Mustangs beat Labette County in the semifinals 10-0. Then defeated Ottawa 3-2 to earn the regional title. Rock Creek improves its program best record to 25-1.
Wamego was looking to do the same in its 4A regional in Louisburg. The Red Raiders would start the day by beating Eudora in the semifinals 9-2, but would fall in the championship game to Louisburg 10-3. Wamego ends its season with a 15-9 record.
At the 2-1A regional in Eskridge, Frankfort eliminated Blue Valley in the semifinals 14-0. Ending the Rams’ season at a record of 5-19. The Wildcats would then fall in the championship game to one-seed Mission Valley 11-1. Frankfort ends its season 13-6.
Boys Golf
At the 6A regional hosted by Junction City, Manhattan High punched its ticket to state by winning the regional team title in impressive fashion. Beating 2nd place Washburn Rural by 17 strokes. Three Indians finished top five. Owen Kandt tied for first with a +6, Tate Reid in 3rd at +7 and Gage Hull in 4th at +8. Jackson Powers finished in 8th, Cade Cochran was in 10th and Cooper Graham finished in 14th to round out the individual placing.
4A regional in Clay Center, the 4A defending champs Wamego also earned a team title with a dominant performance. Finishing 30 strokes ahead of 2nd place Clay Center. Wamego’s Cash Foltz and Spencer Hecht tied for first at +2. Talon White finished third with +3. Breckin Miller came in 9th place and Kaden Tyner in 18th. Rock Creek, also in Clay Center, placed 6th as a team. Top finish for the Mustangs was Hudson Edelman who tied for 9th and qualified for state. Coley Burgess finished in 16th.
1A regional in Washington, Frankfort finished 6th as a team with no state qualifiers.
Girls Soccer
The Manhattan girls improve their record to 11-5-1 with a 6-0 semifinal win over Liberal. The Indians will play for a regional championship on Thursday at Garden City (11-3-2). Kickoff set for 6:00 pm.
