A conservative Manhattan business owner and attorney has filed for the 51st District House seat in the Kansas Legislature.
Kenny Titus, co-owner of National Sports Network, a nationally syndicated play-by-play broadcast network and has degrees from both the University of Kansas and Kansas State University, the latter of which includes a B.S. in Journalism and History. He plans to move into private law practice by the end of the year. He spoke to KMAN Monday, shortly after announcing his intent to run.
“I want to see the economy grow, but in order to do that, we need practical policies that will help deal with affordable housing and we need affordable childcare choices that are safe and reliable,” he said.
Titus currently serves as Chief Counsel to the Kansas Department of Agriculture where he’s worked with Rep. Highland on the issue of water law and has helped lead efforts on the implementation of Kansas’ industrial hemp program.
“It’s something I’m passionate about and I touch on almost every agricultural issue and making sure the ag economy is healthy and vibrant and that we get broadband to communities. All of those issues are inter-related to grow the economy and I’m supportive of all of them,” he said.
He is also a strong supporter of the 2nd amendment and is pro-life and supports amending the Kansas constitution language to say there is not a right to an abortion or public abortion funding.
“Sometimes in Topeka I think we lose track of what can I really do for the average person that’s going to work and taking care of their kids and doesn’t have time to think about some of this stuff. There’s a lot of big picture issues to solve, but at the end of the day I want to get to know more people in the district and I think I can help solve some of our everyday issues,” he said.
Titus is endorsed by Rep. Highland, who Monday announced he will not seek another term in the Legislature, ending a decade of service to the 51st district.
“Kenny is a dedicated public servant, working tirelessly to advance the agriculture industry in Kansas. I’ve worked together with Kenny on many projects. I know he will represent the values of the district well and hit the ground running on day one in Topeka.”
