The Kansas Senate has approved the tax bill and it will now be sent to the Kansas House.
The legislation has several bipartisan perks such as tax cuts on Social Security and food. The legislation also satisfies the Republican leadership as it implements a two-tiered income bracket, lowers rates, allows for exemptions for low-income taxpayers and repeals the state tax on Social Security. The top rate is lowered from 5.7% to 5.58%.
The final vote on the legislation was 34-4. Manhattan state senator Usha Reddi voted to support the legislation. Once the bill passes the House as it is expected to do, the bill will head to Gov. Laura Kelly’s desk.
