Three Manhattan High wrestlers captured 6A State Titles Saturday, while the Indians won the 6A Boys’ team crown after having nine wrestlers medal.
Ezekiel Witt (Boys’ 113) and Sage Rosario (Girls’ 155) capped unbeaten seasons with wins Saturday afternoon. Witt pinned Gabe Sherrell of Olathe Northwest to finish a 43-0 season, needing just 2:36 of his championship match for the fall. Rosario ended the season for all of Manhattan’s wrestlers in winning her match by fall over Veronica Madrid of Derby at 2:55. The win was her 28th of the season.
Caeleb Hutchinson finished his season with a 4-3 decision over Matthew Long of Garden City to capture the title at 120 pounds. He finished the year with a 41-5 record.
In winning the team crown, Manhattan outdistanced Mill Valley by 10 points, 185-175, and third place Washburn Rural by 15. The Indians had no wrestler in action Saturday finish worse than 5th place, resulting in the necessary points to pull off the title.
