Six Manhattan High wrestlers advanced to the semifinals at the 6A Boys’ State Tournament on Thursday, with all 13 wrestlers having won at least one match on opening day.

Undefeated 113 pounder Ezekiel Witt, Caeleb Hutchinson at 120 pounds, Cameron Coonrod at 126 pounds, Ben Uher at 157 pounds, Landon Dobson at 190 pounds and Raymond Gary-Hernandez at 215 .all won their opening two matches Thursday, moving on to Friday afternoon’s semifinals.  At 138 pounds, Jameal Agnew dropped his quarterfinal match as did Logan Lagerman at 144 pounds.

Clayton Frehn’s quarterfinal at 275 pounds went double overtime overtimes before he dropped a 3-2 decision to Sebastian Lopez of Garden City.

Brecken Crist-Funk at 132 pounds, Jackson Radi at 150 pounds, Kadin Dibbini at 165 pounds and Max Evans-Pryor at 175 won their second round matches, staying alive on the consolation brackets.

Two Wamego wrestlers remain on the winners’ bracket for their respective classes going into Day 2 at the 4A event in Salina. Thomas McIntyre at 150 pounds and Jake Meyer at 215 pounds will wrestle in Friday’s semifinals.

Knox Karnowski suffered a major decision in his 138 pound quarterfinal to fall to the consolation second round.

At 106 pounds, Harry Costa recovered from a first round loss to win his first consolation match by fall.

Also at 4A, Rock Creek’s Aidan McKinney picked up a consolation bracket win at 157 pound to remain alive on Friday.

In the 3-2-1A Tournament, Riley County’s Kaden Gutsch dropped his opening round match but had a bye on the consolation bracket for 144 pounds and will wrestle again Friday.

At the Girls 6A-5A Tournament, Manhattan sent two wrestlers to Friday’s semifinals. Unbeaten Sage Rosario is through to the final four at 155 pounds and Kayla Cramer will wrestle for a spot in the finals at 120 pounds.

Alayna Silfer and Sophia Hoeme both won their second matches Thursday at 140 and 145 pounds, respectively. The two had suffered losses in the opening round and will continue with second round consolation matches to start Friday afternoon’s action.

Three other wrestlers were eliminated after two matches: Alexis Haeusler at 110 pounds, Evelyn Thornburg at 125 and Tierra Young at 135.

All three of Rock Creek’s wrestlers at the 4-1A Girls’ Tournament are still alive heading into Friday, including undefeated Brooklyn Burenheide. She will wrestle in the semifinals Friday after winning both matches at 125 pounds on Thursday.

Joee Perkins remained alive at 100 pounds with a win in her first consolation bracket match and Cecilia Lynch will wrestle again Friday after a consolation round one win at 190 pounds.

From Wamego, Peyton Brazzle lost her initial match on Thursday but won her first consolation one to remain alive at 100 pounds.
