As the new year approaches, the Riley County Seniors Service Center is optimistic as it slowly and safely begins a return to some in person activities.
Director Jami Ramsey was excited to announce recently that starting in January, the center will reopen its dining room to 20 guests at a time, requiring a reservation and signing in along with temperature checks.
“Because our dining room is fairly large, we’re able to spread everybody. But it doesn’t feel cold. They can see other folks and there can at least be some feeling of engaging in some socialization,” she said.
Many of their guests at the Senior Center have been at home since March, when the pandemic first presented, so having them back at the center will be a welcome sight says Ramsey.
The Senior Center is closed through Jan. 1 for the holidays. It will reopen on Monday, Jan. 4.
Movies have returned for small groups and will resume in January. As part of the book club, “Bent Road,” written by Manhattan High graduate Laurie Roy will be read. It’s part of an initiative to celebrate stories, either about Kansans or written by locals.
January special programming includes MHK 2020: A Year in Review on Jan. 8, Health and Wellness in 1880 presented by the Historical Museum Jan. 15 and RCPD Director Dennis Butler presenting Jan. 22 on elder safety tips and other RCPD news.
