The organizers of a country music festival near Manhattan have announced they’re postponing until 2027, about a week after the land owner first announced the event wasn’t happening.
Rock the Plains was planned for Aug. 7-8 at 32750 Wabaunsee Road in Alma. The lineup included names such as Travis Tritt, Ian Munsick and Flatland Cavalry.
Organizers made an announcement Wednesday night.
“We have some news to share, and we wanted you to hear the official statement straight from us: Rock the Plains 2026 is not canceled. It is postponed. We’re targeting spring 2027 for the rescheduled event, and we’ll confirm the exact dates and location as soon as they’re locked in,” they said in a statement.
Organizers said the change wasn’t the fault of any artist or vendor and came down to “circumstances on our end.”
They said tickets will carry forward for 2027, though the lineup will be different.
For those who want a refund, they said ticket holders can message them or the ticket provider. Contact information is on the digital tickets, they said.
As previously reported, land owner Patrick Shannon last week had made a social media post saying the event was canceled, and then organizers asked him to take it down until artists signed off on the change. He said he put out this new announcement when he saw tickets were still for sale.
“Before we could make this announcement, we needed to notify artists’ representatives, county personnel, first responders, and vendors… We wanted every part of this to be accurate before it reached you,” the organizers said in the statement. “That took longer than we wished, and we’re sorry for the wait.”
Shannon has said that if they have the concert in the future, he will not be a part of it. It was to be the second year for Rock the Plains, which was at Tuttle Creek State Park in its first year.
