Riley County saw two more COVID-19 related deaths over the weekend.
One of the deaths was a 76 year old male who tested positive on Nov. 28. He had been in the hospital when he passed away on Saturday. The other patient was a 102 year old woman from Meadowlark who tested positive on Dec. 1 and passed away Sunday. There have been 18 COVID related deaths in Riley County since March.
The county also confirmed 71 new positive cases over the weekend, with 341 active cases. That brings the county’s total of positive cases since March to 4,341. The health department has not said yet how many recoveries have occurred since Friday , but the total number of recoveries is at 3,982. Ascension Via Christi in Manhattan is currently caring for nine positive cases, four of which are in the intensive care unit.
Local Health Officer Julie Gibbs says they have received most of the results from last Thursday’s free testing event. So far they are seeing a percent positive rate of 14 percent.
