Riley County commissioners made their way to the site of the new Riley County Police Department firing range on Monday.

The new range, located near Zeandale, has two ranges for officers to train and get certifications.  RCPD Lt. Brad Jager and Assistant Director Kurt Muldrup took the commissioners and commission candidates through the site.

The site includes the two ranges and a building to be built later on.  Jager says the range is set to be done by the end of the month, and the building to be raised by Mar 1.  The construction on the building has not yet started, but the dirt has been laid for the foundation.

“I think it’s going to be exactly what we need to ensure our officers are trained,” says Jager.

Jager says they hope to have officers start training later this month or early November.  Riley County Commissioner John Ford was pleased with what he saw so far.  He says the area was the best possible spot for the range and that it was bigger than what he had envisioned.

“I think this is a good investment for the county for many years to come,” says Ford.

The new site for the range is 146 acres and is half a mile from the former site.
