Riley County has officially announced the appointment of Bryant Parker as the county’s new Deputy Counselor.
His appointment follows months of shuffling within the County Counselor’s office, following the April departure of Shelly Woodard, who held the position for less than a year after replacing Craig Cox, who retired in September. He’ll assist County Counselor Clancy Holeman, who also will be retiring at the end of this year. Parker will assist in providing legal counsel to county commissioners, handling contractual agreements, benefit districts, human resource matters and the annual filing of tax foreclosure cases. He will also represent the county in civil suits and actions, draw up contracts and furnish written opinions on legal matters.
Parker’s career includes service in the U.S. Army Reserves from 2003 to 2009 and working in private practice with his twin brother from 2008 to 2024. He holds a Juris Doctorate with Dean’s Honors from Washburn University School of Law, in addition to degrees from Wichita State, the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law and the University of Kansas School of Law.
He is currently pursuing a Master’s of Finance from UMKC, which he anticipates completing next year, according to a Monday release from the county.
