There was a commonality among most of the 33 speakers at Thursday’s public hearing on draft regulations for data centers in Pottawatomie County — a moratorium is necessary.

The speakers said more information is needed to bolster the regulations, however they also praised the Pott County Planning Commission for the work it had already done.

Approximately 125-150 people attended the hearing, which was at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Wamego. The hearing lasted slightly over two hours, just half of what the planning commission had allotted, according to Judd McCormack, commission chair.
