Pottawatomie County needs to develop housing that costs between $1,279 and $2,557 per month to increase the number of affordable places for workers to live, according to a new report from the Pottawatomie County Economic Development Corporation.
Previously, Pottawatomie County EcoDevo officials projected by 2040 the county’s population will range between 33,380 and 36,081 people — with 34,971 as the median. That’s an increase of more than 11,000 people since 2016, which will require 4,189 additional housing units. The new report highlights the need for those housing units to be affordable for workers to keep them in the community.
