The Riley County Police Department responded to 25 incidents on September 5 and early September 6, ranging from injury accidents and thefts to drug-related arrests and welfare checks.
Two injury accidents were reported, one at South Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Fort Riley Boulevard at 11:29 a.m., and another at North Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Anderson Avenue around 2:08 p.m. Non-injury accidents occurred at Tuttle Creek Boulevard and North 60th Street, South Juliette Avenue and Yuma Street, and North Manhattan Avenue and Pioneer Lane.
Officers handled a variety of other incidents, including an animal bite on Moehlman Road, a battery report in Riley, and a fight in front of Fat Shack on Moro Street early Saturday morning. Two drug-related cases were logged on Kimball Avenue and Meadowlark Road. Larcenies were reported at O’Malley’s Alley on Moro Street and the Manhattan Public Library on Poyntz Avenue. Police also investigated an overdose on Chimney Rock Road and a stolen vehicle report on Pillsbury Drive.
Twelve arrests were made during this period. Among them, Jirou Jordan Gill, 25, of Topeka, was arrested for disorderly conduct following a fight on Moro Street. Rhante Rashean Brown, 32, of Savannah, Georgia, was booked on multiple charges related to the distribution of controlled substances, including one linked to causing a death, with bond set at $150,000. Luis Fernando Argueta Mejia, 23, of Manhattan, was arrested twice on separate failure-to-appear warrants with combined bonds of $2,000.
Other arrests included Joshua Keith Downey, 29, for driving while suspended and as a habitual violator; Margarita Jimenez Munoz, 29, for domestic battery; and Oliver Augusto Smith Kohn, 22, for driving under the influence. Additional warrants and probation violations accounted for the remaining arrests.
Police also conducted welfare checks, responded to trespassing complaints, and served multiple warrants throughout the day.
