Poyntz Ave. in Manhattan on August 21, 2023, at approximately 11:00 a.m. Upon arrival, officers found a 2004 Ford EC3 driven by Rodney Welfringer, 55, of Manhattan had been traveling westbound on Highway 24 and took the right turn lane to merge onto northbound Tuttle Creek Blvd. when he rear-ended a 2016 Honda Fit driven by Yolanda Broyles-Gonzalez, 74, also of Manhattan who was in the turn lane in front of him. Broyles-Gonzalez and a passenger in her car were both transported to Via Christi for treatment of back pain. Welfringer was issued a citation for inattentive driving.
