The following summary of calls for service/reports filed by the Riley County Police Department is a portion of those received by police.  Some names, addresses, and case details are withheld to follow local, state, and federal law as well as in an attempt to protect community members from being victimized further.  Those arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

MANHATTAN, KAN. –

Officers filed a report for theft and criminal use of a financial card in the 2100 block of Elm Ln in Manhattan on October 1, 2020, at approximately 10:33 am. Officers listed a 23-year-old male as the victim and a 24-year-old female as the suspect when it was reported she took his debit card and obtained cash. The estimated total loss associated with this case is approximately $500.00. Anyone with information can contact RCPD or the Manhattan Riley County Crime Stoppers. Using the Crime Stoppers service can allow you to remain anonymous and could qualify you for a cash reward of up to $1,000.00.

Officers filed a report for forgery and unlawful to obtain prescription drug in the 2400 block of Claflin in Manhattan on October 1, 2020, at approximately 5:18 pm. Officers listed the State of Kansas as the victim when it was reported a 26-year-old female attempted to obtain prescription drugs with a fictitious prescription. Amber Gibson, 26 of Illinois, was arrested in connection on the offenses of forgery and unlawful to obtain prescription drug. Gibson was issued a total bond of $7,000.00 and is no longer confined at the time of this report.

Officers responded to the report of an injury crash in the 7800 block of Highway 77 on October 1, 2020, at approximately 7:48 pm.  When officers arrived on scene they found a 2013 Volkswagon Passat driven by Andrew Applegarth, 48 of Lawrence and occupied by Emma Applegarth, 16 of Lawrence struck a deer.  A. Applegarth and E. Applegarth were transported to Via Christi for treatment of their injuries.
