With Fake Patty’s day coming up this weekend, the Riley County Police Department has been preparing well in advance for the influx of people that come for the event.

While claims were made on social media by college students in the area that RCPD was attempting to cancel Fake Patty’s day, RCPD Director Peete emphasizes that isn’t the case, but tempers it with the need for citizens who engage in the festivities to abide by city code and make good decisions:

Peete also notes that in the aftermath of Fake Patty’s, the police department and crisis response center see an annual increase in reports of avoidable crimes:

Tied to that, RCPD recognizes the unease some members of the community feel about the annual festivities considering the fatal shooting that happened at the Super Bowl Parade for the Chiefs earlier this month:

Ultimately, Peete takes care to highlight the importance of making decisions that you won’t regret after the fact:

Director Peete is anticipating the entirety of the RCPD to be available over the weekend, and ensured the public that the RCPD has no intention of canceling Fake Patty’s Day, but has doubled down on its efforts to help ensure that people make smarter decisions during the course of the weekend.
