The Riley County Health Department is confirming 118 new positive cases of COVID-19 since Friday and now says over 4,000 residents have tested positive since the pandemic began.

The total number of cases since March is 4,023, of which 384 are currently active. That means, since the first case was presented March 20 (262 days ago), Riley County is averaging 15 new positive COVID cases each day.

Ascension Via Christi is caring for 11 positive patients and two patients under investigation, showing symptoms. Three of those patients are in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit. There remain 13 active COVID outbreaks in Riley County, accounting for about a third of all active cases.

The health department says test results have come back for nearly all of the 657 who came out to the free testing event Thursday at CiCo Park, showing a 25 percent positive rate. Some of the participants lived outside of Riley County, and thus aren’t reflected in Riley County statistics.

In addition, 115 more people were added to the overall recovered list, which now is at 3,623.

Elsewhere in the area, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment reported 29 new cases in Pottawatomie County since Friday. Geary County reported 77 new cases.
