Manhattan’s Ag Press building is set to undergo major renovations, and the new owner is seeking assistance from the city to relocate the public sewer line underneath the building.

The sewer line project is part of owner Derek Richards’ larger $1 million dollar vision to reinvent the historic ag press building into “The Press,” a trendy new concert and event venue.

The original sewer line was built in the 1940’s and Richards argues that the line will need to be replaced soon anyways and it would benefit both parties to get it done sooner rather than later.

Commissioners will also decide on whether or not to grant Industrial Revenue Bonds (IRB) for Sales Tax Exemption on the renovated ag press.

Both the building renovations and sewer project are in the early stages, and will be discussed at future city commission meetings before being voted on.

A local engineering firm estimates the relocation to cost approximately $87,500.
