A former Manhattan city commissioner and mayor has announced her intention to run for the 51st legislative district.
Linda Morse, who served on the city commission from 2015 until 2023 and was mayor from 2017-18 and in 2022, announced on Monday she will seek the Democratic nomination for the seat which is being left vacated by incumbent Kenny Titus who is running for the State Senate.
Morse explains why she is running for the State House citing her frustration with the leadership in the legislature.

Morse says she is opposed to the “dark store theory.” She also believes that she can be a consensus builder.

Morse also voiced her frustration with the legislature’s unwillingness to pass legislation like Medicaid expansion while also finding ways to further restrict the practice of abortion.

Morse is one of three candidates to file for this seat. Republicans Megan Steele of Manhattan and Eli Kormanik of Alta Vista announced their candidacies prior to the filing deadline. Morse currently lives in Northview.
The 51st district is primarily a rural district, stretching from the Eastern portion on Manhattan into Wamego and encompasses most of rural Pottawatomie County.
