RCPD has arrested and charged a local man with first degree murder after he reportedly stabbed and killed a woman in Manhattan on Tuesday afternoon.

Officers apprehended 24-year-old Hunter Smith just after 11:30 a.m. in the 3000 block of Arbor Drive after it was reported he stabbed 24-year-old Tabetha Deer of Mountain Home, Arkansas. Deer was taken by EMS to Ascension Via Christi and later was air lifted to Stormont Vail in Topeka where she succumbed to her injuries.

Smith has been charged in the case with a charge of first degree murder and he is currently confined in the Riley County Jail on a bond of $1 million.

The case remains open and ongoing at this time.
