The Polar Plunge is back and we encourage you to join in the fun!
Brace yourselves for an icy adventure as Special Olympics Kansas gears up for its biggest fundraiser of the year – the Polar Plunge. Taking place on Saturday, Feb. 10 at Tuttle Creek State Park, this chilling event promises a cold splash of fun while supporting a cause that warms the heart.
Participants can form teams to plunge together or register as an individual. They then gather donations through their online fundraising portal from family, friends, and the community. After registering for the event, participants can begin fundraising and sharing their participation in the Plunge on their social media pages to help their efforts. This year’s theme is ‘Together, We Freeze.’
In order to provide free-of-charge sports, leadership and relationship-building opportunities for the nearly 100 athletes in our community, the Special Olympics are setting the fundraising goal to $17,000 for this year’s annual Polar Plunge fundraiser and we’re jumping in (literally) with them to help!
This event supports Special Olympics Kansas. Money raised benefits the sports competitions as well as athlete leadership programs, unified intramural/interscholastic programs and supports the local Manhattan Sports Club team.
Krystin Guggisberg, Regional Director at Special Olympics Kansas told us, “The Polar Plunge is a well known staple in the Manhattan community. Year after year, community members show up to support local Special Olympics athletes and raise funds for the many Special Olympics initiatives. Together, we’re taking the plunge for inclusion and creating opportunities for our athletes.”
Opening announcements and awards will begin at Noon, including a costume contest based on this year’s theme; “Together We Plunge”. The plunge will start shortly following the announcements and awards. All participants are invited to stay after the plunge to partake in a free hot dog lunch served from Riley County Police Department’s food trailer.
This year’s Polar Plunge will take place at noon on Saturday, February 10th at the Tuttle Creek State Park Swimming Beach. You can join the event on Facebook so you’ll get updates and reminders! You can also donate to a team by going here.
