A local animal shelter announced on Monday that it is closing temporarily due to symptoms resembling kennel cough were going around the shelter.
The Junction City Animal Shelter announced in a social media post that the shelter will be closing for a minimum of one week so they could monitor symptoms of kennel cough. The disease is a highly contagious respiratory disease and is very common in shelters similar to the Junction City Animal Shelter.
The social media posts says the illness can spread due to one stray dog coming into the shelter. Dog owners in the area are encouraged to stay vigilant when they’re out at public places, as these could be areas where the illness can spread. Symptoms of kennel cough are a strong cough, sometimes with a “honking” sound, runny nose, sneezing, lethargy, loss of appetite or a low fever.
