On Tuesday, legendary Kansas State Basketball Coach Jack Hartman was posthumously named to the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame. He died in 1998 at the age of 73.
Hartman played both football and basketball at Oklahoma State, then Quarterback in the Canadian Football League, before turning his attention to coaching men’s basketball at the collegiate level.
At K-State, Hartman lead the Wildcats to four Elite Eights during 16 seasons, finishing first or second in the Big Eight in 10 of those years. He was selected as the Big Eight Coach of the Year in 1975 and 1977, in addition to being named the 1981 National Association of Basketball Coaches co-coach of the year.
Hartman retired in 1986 with a 589-279 record, before briefly taking over the K-State Women’s Basketball coaching duties for the final seven games of the 1995-’96 season.
The date of the induction ceremony has not been announced, but finalists will be picked on Feb. 14 and the inductee class will be unveiled during the NCAA Final Four on Apr. 5 from San Antonio.
