Presidential debates have grabbed headlines in recent months, but one K-State professor says they don’t tend to swing elections as much as people thing they do.
The June 27 debate between then-Democratic candidate President Joe Biden and Republican candidate Donald Trump was a catalyst in Biden’s decision to step aside and let Vice President Kamala Harris run for president in his place, and the Sept. 10 debate between Harris and Trump produced all sorts of talking points and internet memes.
Nathaniel Birkhead, head of the political science department at K-State, said the debates impacted polling but may not be decisive.
