Fort Riley officials on Wednesday commemorated the military service members who died in recent wars on the 23rd anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

The event featured speakers, the laying of a wreath, a three-volley salute and the 1st Infantry Division Band performing renditions of “America the Beautiful” and “Amazing Grace.”

Fort Riley garrison commander Col. Gerald Nunziato said he was a young lieutenant at the beginning of his U.S. Army career on Sept. 11, 2001, and was a tank platoon leader at Camp Garry Owen in Korea.
