Plans to open a Hawaiian Bros restaurant may be back on track.
Hawaiian Bros Island Grill, Kansas City, Mo.-based chain, submitted plans to the Manhattan city government to open in the former Panera Bread building at 325 E. Poyntz Ave. in 2022.
Since then, the building has sat vacant with no visible changes. But passersby last week noticed a “coming soon” sign in front of the building.
The sign also said, “Apply at workathbros.com.” The site had a button for a Manhattan location, but no jobs were listed as of Monday morning.
Restaurant officials were not immediately available for comment, but Pottawatomie County records show that Hawaiian Bros owns the property.
Hawaiian Bros has five locations in Kansas, in Lawrence and the Kansas City metro area.
In 2023 it announced plans with a franchisee to open 75 restaurants in Arizona and North Texas and recently has opened locations in Phoenix and Lubbock.
