A former member of the Pottawatomie County Commission is looking to return after being away from the commission for nearly ten years.

Gary Yenzer, who served on the commission from 2010-2014 in the 1st district, is running in the newly formed 4th district as a Republican. Yenzer spoke more about why he’s running for the county commission.

Yenzer also spoke about the issue of solar, something he supports.

Yenzer initially opposed the expansion of the county commission but has come around to support it. He also said that he thinks the planning commission should provide equal representation.

Yenzer said he thinks he is most qualified for the position because he’s been on the commission and that he has always wanted to represent the people.

Yenzer is one of six candidates running for the 4th district seat. Judd McCormack and Amanda Worden have automatically advanced to the Nov. 5 general election ballot, meaning Yenzer will need to fend off 3 others to make it to the general election. The primary is set for Aug. 6.
