Evergy released a statement Wednesday morning detailing the work that they did to restore power to most of Westmoreland in the aftermath of a tornado that struck the town Tuesday afternoon causing significant property damage and infrastructure interruptions.
“Crews worked through the night and restored power to nearly all homes that are safe to restore at this point,” says Communications Manager Kaley Bohlen. “Unfortunately, given the substantial damage to some homes due to the tornado, we won’t be able to restore power at this point as structural repairs and rebuilding is needed. Crews will be in the area today continuing storm clean-up work.”
Clean-up efforts continue today in the community. The American Red Cross and Salvation Army will be on scene to collect donations and provide emergency relief assistance.
