The Greater Manhattan Community Foundation will honor the “best” in philanthropy Monday when it hosts its annual Community Foundation Awards.
The program also serves as the organization’s annual meeting. CEO Vern Henricks said this year’s event will be somewhat scaled back.
“A few less awards than we typically have given, but nonetheless, I think we’re going to profile the ones we got a little bit more,” he said.
Award categories include the rising star volunteer, distinguished volunteer, civic philanthropy, business philanthropy and philanthropist of the year. The program will also highlight a community nonprofit.
GMCF founder and event sponsor Jim Gordon, of Sink, Gordon, and Associates says community involvement is crucial.
“You need to find a charity that you’re really passionate about, and then you take that passion and turn it into action so that you can make a difference for that charity,” Gordon said. “You don’t need to be involved with every charity in town, but everybody has different things that they’re interested in, and just you need to channel that interest into a passion that you can do community good.”
The event will begin at 5:30 pm Monday at the Manhattan Conference Center.
