Senior citizens are often seen as one of the primary victims of fraud.
Manhattan Senior Center Director Liz Nelson shared information recently on KMAN’s In Focus, noting there are many tools to help protect seniors. She says Manhattan has the highest incident of fraud of any city in Kansas.
Nelson says while the number may not seem like much, the dollar amount bilked out of these victims in some cases may be astronomical.
The Senior Center will be offering educational programs aimed at fraud prevention at least every three months. Nelson says too often a person realizes they’ve been victimized when it’s already too late.
One of the most common types of fraud perpetrated on seniors is Medicare Fraud. Nelson explains what it is and how to detect it.
Anyone who believes they have become the victim of fraud is urged to reach out to their bank or RCPD for more information and tools.
