Local law enforcement agencies are alerting the public to watch out for counterfeit money circulating in the area.
The Riley County and Junction City Police Departments each say they received reports last week of counterfeit $100 bills. They say the cases appear to be connected, as the serial numbers on the bills match. The counterfeit bills are described as an older design that lacks current security features. They also have a waxy texture and have passed some counterfeit detection pen tests.
Both agencies are encouraging the community to carefully verify any cash received to ensure its authenticity.
