A USD 383 Manhattan-Ogden school board member has apologized after some parents spoke out against poor accountability and communication from the district’s special education department.

Christine Weixelman on Wednesday said she was disappointed to hear from families who’d received inconsistent or no communication about changes or cuts to their children’s special ed services. Her apology came after four parents spoke at the district’s board of education meeting on Wednesday.

“Personally, on a high level, I believe some bad decisions were made how special education services were going to change and/or be delivered in this school year,” Weixelman said, “I would have liked board of ed involvement in the beginning to see if there was a way to gradually make changes while still meeting the needs of all our children with IEPs.”
