Manhattan city officials on Wednesday said they are concerned about the safety of local immigrant families and the impact on the community in the event of mass deportation.

Commissioner Susan Adamchak during the two-day city commission retreat said most immigrants living in Manhattan are in the United States legally, and she wants her fellow commissioners to join her in looking out for those families.

“We have at least five families whose status is extremely in question, not because they’re illegal, but because they came from some of those countries that Trump has just withdrawn protective status,” Adamchak said. “If immigration officials want to find those families, they can do that very easily because they are here legally. They are registered, and their addresses are available.”
