Officers responded to the report of an injury crash near the intersection of Westloop Place and Claflin Road on August 20, 2025, at approximately 5:16 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found a 2015 Ford Explorer driven by Vonda Vandwehr, 19, of Manhattan, had struck a pedestrian, Dimya Brown, 19, of Manhattan. Brown was evaluated by Riley County EMS at the scene for minor injuries and was not transported to the hospital. Vandwehr was issued a citation for inattentive driving and no proof of insurance.

Rashard Shelton, 25, of Manhattan, was arrested on August 20, 2025, at approximately 1:15 p.m. on a Riley County District Court warrant for failure to appear. This warrant stems from an original charge of domestic battery. Shelton was issued a total bond of $8,000 and remains confined in the Riley County Jail at the time of this report.

According to the Riley County Police Department, a Chevy Silverado driven by 55-year-old Ysidoro Arguello struck a Harley Davidson, driven by 71-year-old Donald Taylor in the 400 block of Levee Drive. Taylor had to be transported by LifeStar helicopter to KU Medical Center for treatment of major injuries.

Arguello was cited for inattentive driving, no proof of insurance and no proof of driver’s license.

Riley County Police responded to an injury accident on the morning of November 30, 2024, at the intersection of Leavenworth Street and N. Juliette Avenue.

According to the report, a 2013 Toyota Tacoma driven by 21-year-old John Mayes collided head-on with a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan operated by 47-year-old Marco Galeano-Casco. Galeano-Casco sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Via Christi Hospital by EMS for treatment.

Police cited Galeano-Casco for driving without a license and failing to provide proof of insurance.
