An 18-year-old Manhattan man was injured in an accident at 10:23 p.m. Monday near the intersection of North Manhattan Avenue and Fremont Street.

Riley County police officers found a Lexus driven by Claire Holt, 21, of Manhattan had struck Philip Trice-Ortega, who was driving an electric scooter. Trice-Ortega was transported to Ascension Via Christi Hospital for treatment of his injuries and Holt was issued a citation for failure to yield right of way at a stop sign.

A 20-year-old Manhattan man, Kelvy Abbott, Jr., was arrested on January 29, 2025, in connection with serious child abuse charges. Abbott was taken into custody at approximately 10:27 AM in the 2500 block of Farm Bureau Road, based on a Riley County District Court warrant.

Abbott faces charges of aggravated indecent liberties with a child and rape involving a victim under the age of 14. The charges allege that Abbott, 18 or older at the time of the offenses, committed these acts against a minor.

Abbott’s bond has been set at $75,000, and he remains in custody. Due to the nature of the crime, authorities have not released any additional details regarding the investigation at this time.

On January 24, 2025, at approximately 11:58 PM, officers responded to a report of a possible gunshot in the 1300 block of Laramie Street. Officers on the scene heard a noise similar to that of a gunshot and, upon further investigation, found evidence confirming that a round had been fired by an unknown subject in a nearby parking garage.

A local man was arrested on Monday evening for domestic battery.

Police arrested Mason Randolph, 35, of Manhattan just after 6:15 p.m. in the 2400 block of Brockman Street. Randolph was arrested for the probable cause offenses of criminal damage to property, aggravated assault, and domestic battery.

Total bond was set at $13,000. Randolph was confined at the time of this report.
